Associate Membership

Associate Membership in the Servite Secular Institute gives an opportunity for committed Catholics to promise to live a more dedicated secular life, taking the ideals outlined by Jesus in the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount as their inspiration. It is open to Catholic men and women, single, married or divorced. Married men or women would need the permission of their spouse if only one of the couple wished to become an Associate and those who are divorced would need to know, understand and follow the Church's teaching on divorce.

There is a period of 2 to 3 years in formation. This is a time of spiritual growth and discernment. At the end of this period, a Temporary Pledge may be made to live in Poverty of Spirit, Purity of Heart and Obedience to the Church and the Constitutions of the Servite Secular Institute. This is renewed annually. At the end of five years in Temporary Pledge, a permanent commitment may be made. The Associates keep in contact through a newsletter. They also meet in groups from time to time and they are invited to Servite gatherings which may be Secular Institute occasions or events involving the whole Servite family. Associates share the same spirit and enjoy the privileges common to all members of the Servite Order. They are united in a spirit of service and prayer, supporting one another as the occasion arises.
